Mr. Jarve is currently in his 18th year of teaching and his 4th year at the Gaylord Community Schools.  He teaches 6th grade beginning band and all high school bands.  Mr. Jarve earned a Bachelors in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from Oberlin College and a Masters of Music in Trumpet Performance from Northwestern University.  He actively conducts and performs in many Northern Michigan music groups, including the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, Northern Michigan Brass Band, and the Gaylord Community Band.  Outside of music, Mr. Jarve enjoys golfing, fishing, and camping.

 


Julie Harman is currently in her second year as director of all GMS and GHS choirs.  She comes from Western Michigan University with a Bachelors in Music Education, K-12 with a Choral/General emphasis.  She most recently completed her student teaching under Cole Tyrrell at South Haven High School.  She has also been a private voice teacher for four years and continues private teaching in Gaylord.

Brian Carter, director of GMS Bands.


Brian D. Carter is in his 6th year of directing the GMS 7th and 8th grade bands.  In addition he also teaches 6th grade band.  He received his Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance from Olivet College, his Masters of Music in Horn Performance from Michigan State University, and his K-12 Music Certification from Spring Arbor University.  Prior to coming to Gaylord, he was employed by Alpena Public Schools for 5 years as the TBJH Band Assistant.  He currently performs with Gaylord Chamber Orchestra, Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, Alpena Symphony and Sonare Quintetto wood wind quintet.  He has been a member of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, Marquette Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Civic Symphony Orchestra, Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony, Jackson Symphony Orchestra and the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.
